The Department of Higher Mathematics, as one of the important academic structural units of Baku Business University, carries out teaching and scientific-research activities in mathematics and applied mathematical disciplines. The department is headed by Associate Professor K.K. Omarova, PhD in Mathematics, a representative of the scientific school of Professor Tamella Nasirova, the first female Doctor of Sciences in mathematics in Azerbaijan.
The department has a faculty of 13 people. The staff includes 1 Doctor of Mathematical Sciences, 3 Associate Professors, 5 PhDs, and 4 doctoral students.
Special attention is paid to conducting scientific research, preparing monographs, textbooks, teaching aids, articles, relevant programs, educational-methodical aids, and lecture materials. The library contains textbooks, teaching aids, and methodical aids for the subjects.
Improving the quality of teaching and preparing qualified personnel occupy an important place in the department's activities. The faculty members have a large number of articles and books published in the republic and abroad.
The Department of Higher Mathematics also contributes to the achievement of Baku Business University as an "Entrepreneurial University". In this direction, the department organizes trainings on "MOSE-International Excel Expert Training", "Civil Service Preparation" course, "Master's Preparation" course, and "EViews program".
The scientific results of the head of the department, Associate Professor K.K. Omarova, have been published in Ukrainian Mathematical Journal, Automatic Control and Computer Sciences, Advances and Applications in Mathematical Sciences, Taiwanese Journal of Mathematics, News of Moscow Regional State University, Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, Chaos, Soliton and Fractals and other prestigious publications. She won the main grant competition of the Science Development Foundation in 2017 as the head of the grant project "Investigation of a class of semi-Markov engagement processes and some applications". At the same time, she participated as a reviewer in several internationally prestigious journals and was awarded an international reviewer certificate based on reviews written at a high level. These journals include "Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics" and "Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences", which belong to the Q1 quartile.
The Department of Higher Mathematics ensures the mastery of mathematical sciences and the formation of applied mathematical skills for students studying at all educational levels of the university - undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral. The department carries out the teaching of quantitative analysis methods that are of irreplaceable importance for the fields of economics, business, and management.
The main subjects taught at the department are as follows:
At the master's and doctoral levels, students are taught "Econometrics" in Azerbaijani, Russian, and English. At the same time, at the bachelor's level, "Linear algebra and mathematical analysis", "Probability theory and mathematical statistics", and "Econometrics" are also taught to students studying in the English section.
